Pallavan Express Extended

The Pallavan Superfast Express is a superfast train operated by the Southern Railway zone of the Indian Railways. This train runs between Trichy and Chennai Egmore, the capital Tamil Nadu. It is a prestigious train of the Southern Railway.

The train runs daily, between the said cities. This is operated similar to the train named Vaigai express that runs between Madurai and Chennai. Pallavan was actually introduced parallel to Vaigai Express as it failed to  complete the round trip of between Madurai and Chennai. It runs for a distance of 426  km within seven and a half hours and has 11 stops. This train has more patronage among the people of Tiruchy. It is one of the most popular trains for people travelling between Tiruchy and Chennai during the daytime.

The Railway Ministry has  proposed to extend the train to Karaikal owing to public demands. Since then Consumer activists have opposed the move to extend the train. Yet, the train is being operated from Karaikal station in the neighbouring Union Territory Pondicherry from the first of September.
