The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is a constitutional body in India authorized to conduct examinations for appointment to the various civil services of the Union.
The functions of this Public Service Commission were largely advisory and, because of this limitation, it failed to satisfy the demands of Indian political parties associated with the struggle for freedom.
There are different cadres in UPSC such as IAS,IPS,IFS,IRS etc which are categorised on the basis of ranks of UPSC.
SCHEME OF EXAMINATION:
The examination has three stages i.e.,
(1) Civil Services Preliminary Examinations (CSP) ,under this
Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT)
The following questions pattern will be asked in CAST -
(1) Current Affairs from National and International Evants
(2) Logical Reasoning and Decision Making Solution
(3) Elementary
(4) Mathematics
(5) Quantitative Ability
(6) Data Interpretation from Graphic and Chart
and an optional paper to be selected from the list of subjects.
(2) Civil Services (Main) Examinations Here, those who are selected in the preliminary examination only are eligible to appear.
Now, in the main examination, there are “9” papers that you have to give! These papers include:
(3) Those who are selected in the main examination will be eligible to appear before the Interview Board at New Delhi.

- Nationality For the Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service, a candidate must be a citizen of India.
- Age Limits A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st August, 2010, i.e. he must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1980 and not later than 1st August, 1989.
- Minimum Educational Qualifications The candidate must hold a degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.
- Number of attempts Every candidate appearing at the Civil Services Examination, who is otherwise eligible, shall be permitted four attempts at the examination.
Provided that this restriction on the number of attempts will not apply in the case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates who are otherwise eligible.
